Welcome back to school.

Our Curriculum

The New Curriculum 2014

At Wargrave, we constantly work to ensure that our curriculum is stimulating, varied and relevant for our children.

In preparation for the introduction of the new curriculum this year, we have worked together to update our curriculum, ensuring that our school visits enhance the class topics and that learning is linked where ever possible. We have introduced Building Learning Power, which ensures that our children will become independent, successful learners and now incorporate Philosophy for children when introducing our class texts.

We have employed a dedicated IT assistant to ensure that our media projects such as green screen productions, pod casts and blogs are linked closely to the class curriculum and are interesting and stimulating and self-directed.

We have attached our autumn term long term plans so that you can see what we are doing. Please talk to your child’s teacher if you would like any further information.

Reading and Writing at Wargrave:

At Wargrave Primary School we follow the Letters and Sounds programme to teach phonics, reading and inspire our writing. Letters and Sounds starts in Nursery where children learn the Phase 1 Sounds. The Letters and Sounds learning journey then continues into Reception and Key Stage 1. Children are assessed at assessment points throughout the year and are grouped accordingly and progress through the programme providing suitable challenges for their assessed phonics level. This is a scheme used nationally. In the Foundation Stage this is supported with 'Jolly Phonics.'  For some children whose individual learning style does not suit the Letters and Sounds method of delivery we utilise additional adults to plan and deliver the Read Write Inc programme.

At Wargrave Church of England Primary School, our children get the opportunity to develop a text rich reading diet.  Within the Early Years and Key Stage 1, children use Big Cat reading books.  As children progress through the school they are encouraged to explore books by a range of authors.
