Britishness Week

During our Britishness Week, each class within our school spent the week learning about a famous British person who has helped make Great Britain great.

Reception loved learning all about Queen Elizabeth II and made their own regal crowns.  They even noticed that the queen's face was on our coins.

Children in Year 1 were struck by Beatlemania and learnt all about Sir Paul McCartney.  They learnt all about his time in The Beatles and his later solo career.  They explored alot of his songs and created their own version of The Frog Chorus.

Over in Year 2, pupils explored the Scotish author of Harry Potter, J.K Rowling.  They made wands and wrote their own spells, just like J.K Rowling used to do when she was a little girl.

Year 3 wrote biographies about Tim Berners-Lee who invented the World Wide Web.

Year 4 got sporty as they looked at the achievements of Jessica Ennis.

Year 5 carried on the sporty theme and focussed their learning on Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy.  They designed information posters and wrote biographies about him.

Finally, Year 6 studied theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.  They were amazed at how clever he is and how he has faced adversity in his life and has strived to overcome it.  They all agreed he is a great Great Britain.

At the end of the week, all pupils gave impressive presentations about their chosen British person to the entire school and we all sang The National Anthem.
